Oxford University Press Building. 1962.
Toronto. 1962.
While working for the architectural firm Fairfield and Dubois I was responsible for the interiors and furniture design of the new Oxford University Press Building.
The reception desk was quite a challenge. It had to accommodate two people as well as the square box in the middle, that contained communications equipment. I felt that a sculptural shape might be appropriate and was inspired by the flowing lines of Aalto's Savoy vase.
The reception desk, library shelving and other furniture were manufactured in white oak by Garry Sonnenberg and Craftwood Products.
Unfortunately this building has now been replaced by a new development.
