Both George Minden and I wanted a comfortable, luxurious chair for the main Dining Room. We looked at many suppliers, some of which had some possible chairs, however they were priced extremely high. I decided to try and design a chair that would be comfortable, attractive and very competitively priced compared to the market.

I started developing design concepts and enlisted Master Cabinetmaker Garry Sonnenberg, who ran Craftwood Products, one of the best woodworking and furniture manufacturers in North America and Eddie Kielhauer, Master Upholsterer, who had his own shop.  We worked very closely together and eventually produced a prototype. George Minden liked it and we went into production. The prototype chair is now in he Permanent Design Collection of the Design Centre in Toronto.

The chair is known as # JK 1001. It became a standard product for Karelia and jas been installed in a number of residential and commercial projects.
