Ontario government “EEDEE Award”. 1967.
During our time at the Lothian Mews, the Ontario Government, Economic Development, organized a competition for teams of designers and manufacturers to create new and innovative products for the Canadian market and for export.
Janis Kravis, Architect together with Karelia Studio Limited, submitted actual production prototypes of lounge furniture comprising a chair, a two-seater and a three-seat sofa. Manufactured from local, solid white oak and upholstered in black or tan cowhide, with foam rubber cushions wrapped in dacron.
Both Janis, Kravis Architect and Karelia Studio Limited received a prize in the “Lounge seating”.
This furniture became a standard product for Karelia and sold well for many years.
